Greetings
everyone. Hope you had a good Labor Day weekend whether you were in Denver
loving some Phish Dick’s or chilling at the Hanover Chili Cookoff. I had bigger
plans as I finished out Hanover’s own Winter House Band Tour.
Alright, I maybe stretching
the definition of a Tour as it was only 2 shows, but you all know how much I
love Tour. First up Aug 24 at the Circle
Set 1: Jack Straw, Bertha, Cassidy, Sugaree, Jack a Roe,
Shakedown St., Half Step, Deal
Set 2: Scarlet>Fire, Voodoo Child>Eyes of the World (incomplete
list)
It was their first show in the new and
expanded Circle. It really opens up the place and especially the bar area. Now
if people want to hang and talk without the interference of the band, they can
go over to the other side.
The Jack Straw
and Cassidy were really jammed out. Shakedown is another favorite as Andy had
done that with Devolver, Groovin Seed, and now Winter House. The boys have also
been really working on their transitions. The flow from Voodoo Child into Eyes
was beyond flawless. I didn’t make it through the whole show as I’m old and was
really tired that night.
But Dave, what
about this Tour you were talking about? Well, 8 days later they were playing at the
Hanover (formerly Kclinger’s) Chili cookoff. It was nice to have some new bands
on the bill, including Jah Works. While rather humid, a partly cloudy sky
helped out with the unbearing heat of the sun.
One Set only: (Soundcheck: Althea) Half Step, Bertha, Under
My Thumb>Cassidy, Scarlet>Fire, Cold Rain And Snow. ,
The first 3 songs
were all jammed out to the hilt. Again, the hours of practice have really paid
off as the transition into Cassidy was flawless. And I really can’t put into
words how awesome it is to hear the tunes of the Grateful Dead ringing out over
Hanover.
So there it is. My
take on a big band’s short tour.
